You too can be close to the Counts of Toulouse!
The Tolosan cross, also known in heraldry circles as the distinctive "traforata (croce di)", comes from the long history of the city of Toulouse. Tolosa was its Occitan name in the Middle Ages and was the capital at the time. Occitania refers to the southern, Romanesque third of France, which still maintains its own language today, which is very similar to Catalan. The famous trobadors, Occitan minstrels such as William IX of Aquitaine, and the religious Cathar movement also originated there.
In most Romance languages, it is named after its country of origin: "Occitan cross", Croix occitane (French), Cruz de Occitania (Spanish). Until recently, it was the sole emblem of Midi-Pyrénées. On January 1, 2016, this region merged with the neighboring Languedoc-Roussillon to form the Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées region. The Tolosane cross can now be found there alongside other emblems. Since 24 June 2016, "Occitania" has been the official name of a political entity for the first time.
Laypeople often confuse the shape of the unique cross coat of arms with the handle of the traditional French "clé" (key). Medieval keys often had trefoils or quatrefoils as key handles, as they are known from heraldry.
As can be seen from the Wiener Kirchenzeitung of 1863, the lords, i.e. the Counts of Toulouse, used such a cross "in the red field". Accordingly, the seal stamp here combines a piece of history with marble.
Arouse the interest of your fellow human beings
The historically embossed stamp offers you the opportunity to arouse the interest of your counterpart through the uniqueness of the marking. The imprint is suitable for both wax and metal. While an imprint used to be seen as a sign of sovereign origin, reserved exclusively for the clergy and nobility, today it is particularly popular with historically oriented associations. With the unique seal stamp, which is decorated with the Tolosan cross, you can showcase your documents in style.
- Create impressive seals for individual purposes
- Be one of the collectors who can call such a historic coat of arms stamp their own
- Carry a piece of history out into the world and get into conversation with other history experts
- The hard material (so-called seal) is made of a light-colored marble and has the following dimensions: 3 x 3 x 8 cm
Sealing wax for the production
To create a seal, all you need is a special sealing wax and an envelope. Place the latter on a drip-proof and fireproof surface. Light the wick and turn the wax rod around the wick so that the heat is distributed evenly. The surrounding wax will also partially catch fire. After a few seconds, allow the viscous wax to drip onto the corresponding part of the letter. This creates a blob that should be smaller than the seal.
The traditional stamping process
The thick blob of wax is then shaped by the seal stamp. Now extinguish the candle. Breathe a little on the underside of the seal stamp and apply it to the wax blob. Leave the seal in place for a few seconds until the cooling process is complete. Then remove the stamp and receive an individually designed seal.
