Black iron gall ink
The traditionally produced iron gall ink allows you to immerse yourself in the world of ancient scholars - because they also appreciated the quality of this ink.
Practically everlasting!
This black ink was already used in ancient times, right up to the Middle Ages, because its composition of purely natural products gives it a durability that cannot be achieved with synthetic inks. Due to this special quality, Gallus ink is still used today to sign state treaties, because even after years of storage, a signature that was once made is still visible. The iron gall ink produced according to a historical recipe has a light and air resistance that is second to none.
Made according to a centuries-old original recipe
Quality proves itself: our iron gall ink is produced in the same way as it was practiced in ancient times. The first traditional recipe for this ink dates back to the 3rd century BC.
The basic ingredient has always been dried gall apples, from which gallic acid is extracted after they have been crushed and boiled. Gall apples are the eggs of the oak gall wasp laid on oak leaves. Now only water, iron sulphate and gum arabic are added, the latter preventing the ink from flocculating prematurely and thus increasing its longevity. To ensure that you can enjoy your iron gall ink even after a long period of storage, the glass bottle is carefully sealed with a genuine cork stopper and a wax seal depicting Mercury, the messenger of the gods of the ancient Romans, is attached to it.
When writing with the iron gall ink, the writing initially appears light brown, but turns deep black as it dries, as the iron sulphate it contains oxidizes with the air.
