Sal Conditus herbal sea salt mixture of the chef Apicius
The great master
Even the ancient world had its star chefs. The Roman Apicius even handed down the first detailed cookbook to us.
This cookbook by Apicius collected and archived some of the most famous recipes of the ancient world. These range from very basic everyday meals to unusual dishes that are largely incomprehensible to modern times, such as gravy or stuffed dormice. Overall, however, the author has succeeded in preserving the impressively balanced food culture of antiquity and making it accessible to today's generations. The Romans also enjoyed seasoning and experimenting with different mixtures. Thanks to Apicius, we are now able to recreate some of these tasty meals and experience how people ate over one and a half thousand years ago.
Laurel - the tree of gods and emperors
Salt was, of course, a must at every meal in ancient times and was a frequent visitor to the ancient kitchen. This sea salt mixture in the style of Apicius combines some of the original Roman spices with those that were known to the Italian peninsula through trade with the Oriental provinces. Fundamental to the genuine Roman experience: the leaf of the laurel tree, which was even worshipped by the Romans.

Harmonious balance
With fine sea salt as a base, the spicy aroma of ginger and turmeric, the balanced pungency of pepper and celery seeds and an exquisite selection of six green herbs, this blend embodies a harmonious symphony of Roman culture. Apicius himself tells us the most important thing: "Spice salts to stimulate digestion and the stomach prevent the onset of all diseases, epidemics and colds, but they are also incredibly delicious."
An all-rounder
Sal Conditus is not only suitable for refining salads, herb cheese or quark, it also tastes great as a sandwich spread and even with German jacket potatoes with butter!
