Greek myths and mythology
The goddess Athena in the Greek mythology was considered as the goddess of wisdom, strategy and battle. At the same time she was the patron of art, handicraft and trade. The Greek capitol Athens was named after her. The Parthenon Temple on Acropolis is consecrated to her. According to the myth Athena became patron of the Greek capitol when she fought her wisdom against Poseidon in a competition. The one winning the fight was the one presenting the city the most useful gift. Athena gave an olive tree and with that became the patron of Athens.
