How many papyrus sheets can I make with this set?
The set contains enough materials to make a total of 15 postcard-sized sheets of papyrus. The set is designed for 5 students at a time. Each student can make two postcard size sheets using the classic "wet laying technique" and one pap yrus sheet using the "gluing technique" with wood glue. Thus, each student has THREE self-made papyrus sheets.
Is the set suitable for larger groups?
For larger groups we recommend the purchase of several sets, so that each student can work creatively with three own papyrus sheets in the course of the Project.
How long does it take to finish the papyrus sheets?
With the enclosed "Step by Step" instructions and a little patience, you can see great results after only three to four days. The papyrus sheet created in the "glue - technique" can be used immediately after production for the first writing test.
What is included in the starter set?

How is papyrus made?
The traditional production takes place in several steps according to the technique handed down from ancient Egypt.
Procurement of the papyrus reed (Cyperus Papyrus):
Papyrus is a reed grass that grows mainly in the wetlands of the Nile.
Cutting and slicing:
The outer husks of the papyrus reed are removed, and the inner pith is cut into long, thin strips.
Soaking and laying:
The strips are soaked in water to make them pliable.
They are then laid on a flat surface in two layers, one horizontal and the other vertical.
Pressing and drying:
The laid papyrus is compressed between heavy stones or under a press,
to remove excess water and bind the fibers together. The papyrus is then dried in the sun,
giving it its final strength and texture.
Cutting:
The dried papyrus can be cut into different sizes and used as a drawing or painting surface.
