Emperor Nero - a tyrant with a sense of culture
Emperor Nero is the prototype of a fickle, tyrannical ruler. His hubris knew no bounds, his craving for recognition is legendary. He was passionate about literary works, athletic competitions, and grand displays of power. Nero is even said to have frightened his audience with theatrical displays of poetry and drama, and to have considered himself the greatest artist of all time. However, Nero was not only a friend of self-promotion. He was also ready for great cruelty and tyranny. He had wives murdered and people sentenced to death in mock trials.
However, he is most infamous for the great fire of Rome in 64 A.D. Not a few suspected that the emperor had commissioned it in order to be able to persecute political enemies and Christians. In today's research, these characteristics take a back seat to an approach that portrays Nero as the delusional victim of an ambitious mother who was simply overwhelmed with the business of governing. In addition, Nero is also considered one of the glorious figures of history, with whom one associates dignity, grandeur and strength.
The bust
With its total height of 33 cm, the head is about life-size. It rests on a noble black marble base. Since the main means of production for statues from ancient times was bronze, the material of the original was also a copper-tin alloy. The color of this bust is based on the bronze look.

alabaster plaster - almost like 2000 years ago
This bust of the Emperor Nero is made of fine alabaster plaster, a form of plaster that can hardly be compared to the plain, lower type of building plaster. Because of its exceptional hardness, alabaster plaster is even used in monument conservation. This extremely delicate replica is modeled with care and precision on a 1st century bust made during the emperor's lifetime. The original is in a Berlin collection.
