Cave canem mosaic set. Small stones - great art
Mosaics (also known as mosaics) are among the jewels of craftsmanship. Their production was widespread in many cultures in ancient times. It is not known exactly when the first pictures and ornaments were created from these small pieces. In the vicinity of Ur, the legendary city between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, palm trunks were covered with mosaic stones 2500 - 3000 years ago with the help of asphalt. Different colored pebbles were used in Greece in the early days of this art form, before colorful fragments of glass or stone were used to create increasingly detailed and artistic works.

Cave canem mosaic set based on a template from Pompeii
In the fall of the year 79, the Roman city of Pompeii was almost completely buried by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius. 8000 - 10000 inhabitants lived in this city in the southwest of the country at the time. Due to preceding earth tremors, many inhabitants had already left their homes days earlier.
For almost 1500 years, the city remained buried under a blanket of volcanic ash and pumice stone, up to 25 meters high in places, before it was made accessible to researchers in the 18th century and excavated again.
The Cave Canem mosaic comes from the vestibule of The Homeric House, which was intended to warn visitors and intruders of the court dog. It served as the model for our Cave Canem mosaic set.
This old Pompeian house, about whose inhabitants nothing else is known, amazes archaeologists and visitors today. It is designed very simply in the typical country style, but has a series of extraordinary mosaic floors and frescoes, the high quality and beauty of which have made it famous beyond the country's borders.
With the Cave canem mosaic set, you can awaken the joy of handicrafts, history and art not only in dog lovers.
Once the stones have been laid, the mosaic can be grouted with standard grout. However, if the stones are laid reasonably tightly, grouting is not necessary.
The Cave canem mosaic set is also a great gift idea!
