Lighter - "back to the roots"
The medieval lighter in a handy and sturdy leather bag contains everything the heart needs for original fire making.According to the motto "Practice makes perfect" fire making should not be a problem even for the layman among us.With a little patience you can light an authentic fire after some time.
The flint stone owes its name to the fact that with its help you can light a fire. If flint and metals or ferrous pyrite or marcasite are beaten against each other in a suitable angle, sparks are produced which can be used to make fire. This fact was already known to our ancestors in the Stone Age.

"Stone Age Lighter"
Until the emergence of matches in the 19th century, steel and stone were used as lighters. Such a "Stone Age lighter" consisted of a flintstone, easily combustible powder or easily inflammable fibre material, usually tinder, and pyrite or marcasite. The actual fire-producing stone was pyrite or marcasite or later steel.
Occurrence of flintstone
Flint stones mostly occur near the coast, but can also be found as relics of the Ice Age in inland sedimentary rocks due to transport in glacial ice.
