They were called Sven, Björn or Ragnar, were of strong stature and wore beards, and were also known as the wild hordes from the north. The Vikings were not an independent people. They came from Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Their name probably derives from the Old Norse verb vikingr = rob, plunder. The time of the Vikings was between 793 and 1066 AD.
