Her beauty is as legendary as her relations with the Roman statesman and general, Gaius Iulius Caesar and later Marcus Antonius, another great politician and general of Rome, who outlived Caesar by 6 years and after his death formed the second triumvirate of Rome together with Octavian, later Emperor Augustus and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus.
Queen Cleopatra lived from 69 BC to August 12, 30 BC, where she committed suicide together with Marcus Antonius, her lover, after he lost the decisive battle at Actium against Octavian, in September 31.
Queen Cleopatra VII Philopator, was descended from the Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled Egypt since Alexander the Great's death.
Queen Cleopatra's desire to consolidate the rule of the Ptolemaic dynasty and thus maintain the supremacy of the Egyptian Empire was only temporarily fulfilled. Rome, on its way to becoming the absolute world power of the time, was unstoppable.
