EXPERIENCE THE HOME OF GÖTZ VON BERLICHINGEN THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OF MÖCKMÜHL CASTLE
Nothing is known exactly about the origins of Möckmühl Castle, but it was probably the noble lords of Dürn who built it around 1251. After the death of Konrad von Dürn, the castle came into the possession of the Hohenlohe family through the marriage of his grandson Count Poppo von Dürn to Agnes von Hohenlohe in 1287. In the 15th century, Möckmühl Castle became the property of the House of Württemberg through the marriage of the widow of Elector Ludwig to Count Ulrich von Württemberg. The famous Götz von Berlichingen defended Mockmühl Castle as bailiff against the Swabian League on behalf of the same count. During a raid on the besieged castle, Götz von Berlichingen was wounded and taken prisoner. As Götz von Berlichingen himself reports, he was allegedly taken prisoner, although he had been promised a free exit from the castle.
