The everyday equipment with glasses and ceramics is also really well made and has survived the hard life of a soldier well. In general, the range of products is truly sensational and offers unique products from the Roman era for many age groups and requirements, from hardcore legionnaires to little Roman fans of primary school age.

Satisfied customers

The Dominikanermuseum Rottweil presents in its department "Roman Rottweil - Arae Flaviae" the life in the only Roman city in Baden-Wuerttemberg. We have been a customer of Römershop for a long time for our own museum shop and are convinced of the high and, above all, consistently high quality of the products. The entire team is always looking forward to new products and our shop is an attraction for our visitors thanks to good replicas.

Hello and thank you very much for the great products!

Our students were thrilled with the papyrus coloring pictures and the scarabs. As promised, I am sending you photos of the work with the coloring pictures. I wrote a review for the "scarab" coloring picture, but it can also be added to all the other pictures, since we had different motifs.

The lovingly and authentically designed products from the Römer-Shop have been accompanying me for years and even decades in the field of ancient representation. As a centurion in a Roman military unit until a few years ago, the stationery, from wax tablets to papyrus scrolls, was extremely helpful for high-quality appearances and presentations at museum festivals, in reenactment and in museum education work.

ich möchte meine Bewertung in Reimform darbringen:

The card is easy to work with and the cardboard is sturdy enough for such projects. Perhaps small cast figures and horses on a plastic base would be a useful addition to the shop, rather than the cardboard pictures. My 12-year-old son had fun making something like that

"Wax on, writer!" – how the Romans really took notes

Designing wax tablets in school | Der Römer Shop

Crafting a Wax Tablet – Experience Ancient Writing Culture

In ancient times, wax tablets were no rarity but everyday tools. Romans – from students to senators – used them to record shopping lists, contracts, school exercises, or messages. They were considered Roman notepads – only more durable and reusable. A wooden frame, a recess, some wax, a stylus: that’s all it took to capture thoughts. The practical form was perfect for schools, government offices, and even commerce.

Today, this ancient cultural technique can be rediscovered in the classroom, in workshops, or at home. With our crafting sets, it's not only understandable but also tangible: wood, beeswax, pigments – just like the originals. Especially exciting: writing is done by scratching with the stylus, erasing by smoothing the wax. Once you've built and used a wax tablet, you immediately understand how functional Roman everyday items were.

Beeswax – Authentic Material for Creative Education

The raw materials used make the difference. All kits include genuine beeswax of tested quality with black or red pigment. These colors correspond to documented findings of Roman writing tablets.

Melting and pouring wax not only trains fine motor skills but also conveys a sense of Roman craftsmanship. This way, historical education and creativity are combined with sustainable material use.

Quality that inspires – Content that convinces

Roman wax tablets in the classroom? It's easy and effective! Our craft kits provide all the materials you need for an authentic implementation – historically accurate and educationally sound. The products have been specially developed for use in schools, museums, and workshops. Through hands-on construction, knowledge is not just conveyed but actively experienced. Every component – from the wood to the beeswax – is high-quality, tested, and thoroughly proven.

  • Authentic materials: real beeswax, pigments, untreated wood
  • Easy to use: clear instructions – suitable for large groups
  • Versatile in application: in history, art, or crafts classes
  • Flexible to replenish: wax pellets and pigments also available separately
This makes historical education practical, creative, and sustainable.

Experience antiquity through creative projects

How did Roman children learn to write? This question suddenly comes to life in the classroom – when wax tablets are not only explained but also built and written on by the students themselves. This project is ideal for interdisciplinary teaching units: history, art, technology, and language intertwine perfectly here. Create Roman writing tablets with the class – from assembling the wooden frame to melting the wax and writing with a stylus. The children work in a hands-on way and experience history in a tangible form. The highlight: At the end, a small exhibition or a souvenir to take home is created.

Interactive project work for groups or station learning

Can be combined with topics such as "Ancient Rome," "Early writing," or "Craftsmanship in antiquity." Ideal for students aged 8 and up. Also works without a workshop – the beeswax can be melted in a water bath.
This is how learning becomes a historical adventure – and crafting becomes an educational experience.
