Yes and no: The scarab may be stemming from the dung beetle, but it is a lot more than just a simple beetle.
The scarab was considered by the ancient Egypts as sacred and they worshiped it as a lucky charm. The balls of dung, which the scarabs pushed, to the very advanced culture close to the Nile symbolised the sun and thus they identified those kenn beetles with their god of sun Re.
