A glorious procession through grandiose arches
Roman emperors and successful strategists celebrated their victories extensively in a triumphal procession in that time. Therefor they marched through the arch to the Capitol.They thanked the military god Jupiter for their victory in the battle and offered him sacrifices. Some triumphal arches were forcefully and splendidly constructed out of stone. So could could remember the victory after some time as well.
Many heroic deed set in stone - a view, that was enjoyed euphorically
An inscription in the arch made the name of the victor public and named his heroic deeds, which lead hm to the victory. On the numerous reliefs the won battles could be seen. An emperor's statue as well was on the triumphal arch such as the defeated opponent, that was pictured tied up. On top of the arch stood a four-in-hand carriage pulled by horses.
