Joker from late antiquity
An angster or kuttrolf is a bulbous drinking vessel that has been popular for centuries. It originally came from Cologne in late antiquity. Not always made from forest glass, the Kuttrolf stands out with its unusual appearance.
If you think you can just take a sip, you are mistaken.
The neck, twisted from 5 tubes, sits on an onion-shaped belly. It is slightly curved. The spout has a conically shaped rim and is itself bowl-shaped. Thanks to these facts, you will often spill and hear a characteristic gurgle when drinking. Both are intentional.
A Glucker bottle is a joke vessel. It is therefore only possible to drink without danger if you are extremely careful. This fact regularly created a cheerful atmosphere at festivals. Thanks to the bent neck, you can simply clip the bottle under your belt.

Pure glass art
The twisted neck of the bottle consists of 4 thin, smooth glass tubes on the outside and a slightly thicker twisted tube on the inside. This appears square. The four outer tubes sit on the lower onion-shaped glass body at a distance of around 1 cm from the inside. They rotate around the central strand and form a four-strand spiral with a thin glass connection from each 'corner' to the outer tube. The opening of the artfully crafted neck of the bottle forms a triangular shape when it is served. The vessel is both visually and acoustically exceptional.
A piece of cultural history
The Gluckerflasche was first mentioned in writing in the German lands in 1220 in the Willehalm epic. For more than a thousand years, the Kuttrolf was a mass-produced glass vessel. This bottle was produced in so-called forest glassworks until the 17th century. Overall, production is documented until the 19th century. Potash gives forest glass its green color. Only the wealthy could afford glass. The clergy ran their own glassworks.
