Fred with the Maya
The uprising of the jaguar warriors
The Maya - a highly developed culture
The Maya were an indigenous people or group of indigenous peoples in Central America who founded impressive empires in so-called pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. The Maya were known for their cultivation of maize, their highly developed calendar for the time and their mathematics. Their writing was the only fully developed form of writing in America until the arrival of the Spanish. Their characteristic handicrafts were richly endowed and incomparable. Unlike in prehistoric Europe, the processing of metal was of late importance and initially only used for ritual purposes. The Maya cities were characterized by impressive architecture, such as 75-metre-high step pyramids, palaces and observatories.
