Alexander the Great bust
A legend at a young age
One of the most famous and controversial personalities of antiquity was Alexander the Great. On the one hand a brilliant strategist, courageous fighter and outstanding commander. On the other hand a brutal, power-obsessed and irascible despot. In his defense it should be mentioned that Alexander grew up as a king's son in a world where wars, slavery, murder and manslaughter were commonplace.
At the age of 20 he became king and soon had to defend his throne. He created a world empire that broke the then known boundaries of the world. Many reports from his life have become legends. Be it the taming of his horse Bukephalos in his childhood or later the loosening of the Gordian knot.
Young and successful
The Alexander bust shows a young man, who succeeded several times with a small army to defeat often superior opponents. It was the Battle of Issos (333 BC) that established his reputation as a legendary general. So it is not surprising that he became a role model for many Roman emperors and the subject of many historians. Despite his youth, Alexander was also a farsighted man. To ensure peace in the areas he conquered, he married his soldiers to local women. In Persia he even arranged a mass wedding of 10000 couples.
Even today the names of the cities he founded remind us of Alexander the Great.
