You have questions?
Is it real papyrus?
Yes, we guarantee it. Our papyrus comes from Egypt and we have known the producing families for many years.
We are personally involved in the harvesting of the raw materials, the production process and even visit the fields to ensure consistent quality.
How is papyrus made?
Papyrus is made from the papyrus plant by cutting the stem into thin strips.
These strips are then laid parallel to each other with a second layer laid at right angles on top. Using moisture and pressure, the strips are pressed together and stick together naturally.
When dry, the result is a solid, paper-like material that can be used for writing and painting.
Where does papyrus grow?
Papyrus is a marsh plant that thrives in tropical and subtropical regions. It grows mainly along the Nile in Egypt and in some areas of Sudan and Sicily.
The plant needs standing water and moist, nutrient-rich soil to grow optimally.
The ancient Egyptians used papyrus to make writing material, which was an important part of their culture and education.
Where and when was papyrus invented?
Papyrus was invented in ancient Egypt around 3000 BC.
It is an early writing material made from the papyrus plant. This revolutionary invention revolutionised communication and the recording of information.
Papyrus enabled people to pass on knowledge and culture in a structured way and contributed significantly to the development of educational systems.
What does fair trade of papyrus mean ?
The direct purchase of papyrus from farmers in Egypt supports their families. Fair prices and regular purchases of papyrus products allow families to plan and invest for the long term.
Fair trade is more than the import and distribution of papyrus. The personal relationship with the papyrus producers and family members is important to us and guarantees that there are no middlemen in Egypt and Europe driving up the prices.
This is important to us!
We regularly visit Egypt to get an accurate picture of papyrus production.
