Alabaster figures in Egypt with Ramses and his wife
Alabaster plaster was a popular material for making statues in Egypt. Today, the origin of the word "alabaster" is disputed. Over time, it was also used for other materials with similar properties: A light to white surface that has a matt sheen when polished. This noble-looking material was particularly popular in Egypt for statues of gods and prominent personalities. Today's monochrome statues were usually colorfully painted at the time of production and were based on realistic bodies.

Living history
Painting and sculpting were omnipresent in ancient Egypt. Elaborate depictions were made to establish contact with the afterlife and to enable the deceased to have a good life after death. Following in the footsteps of Egyptian culture, it is particularly exciting for children and young people to paint their own figures with Egyptian motifs. This lively approach to history is fun and conveys valuable information at the same time.
Statuettes as a gateway to the afterlife
The Uschepti have been known in Egypt since around 2000 years before Christ. They represented the deceased in the form of mummies. In many cases, they were even inscribed with the name of the deceased so that they could answer in their place before the Last Judgement. The work of the deceased was also to be carried out by the ushepti in the afterlife. Uschepti are widespread and have been found in large numbers during excavations. Particularly outstanding people were often depicted, including, of course, the supreme king, the pharaoh Ramses and the queen. In order to enable them to live in the afterlife, they were depicted in a highly idealized manner. Such depictions were often commissioned by the pharaoh himself during his lifetime.
Living history
Painting by hand makes it possible to experience history in a playful way. Children in particular have fun learning about Egyptian history, as their own experience awakens their interest and is a valuable learning experience.
