Fire - a vital discovery
One day, people discovered that if you hit iron with a flint, small sparks are produced and a fire can be lit. This required a particularly carbon-rich and resistant steel that was not too hard so that it would not break when the stone struck it. It also had to produce enough sparks. This required great skill in production. The similar forms used by the Germanic tribes, Vikings and Romans are the result of its use. Before the chopping iron was discovered for making fire, it was much more laborious to light a fire, as this was only possible by rubbing pieces of wood together. Tinder was found almost everywhere, e.g. cattail or tinder fungus.
A tool with great power
A chopping iron was used exclusively for making fire and was not allowed to be used as a weapon. An unwritten law that blacksmiths still abide by today. It was so valuable that it was passed down through generations, because without fire and warmth there would be no hot food and no warm homes. Fire - dangerous and fascinating at the same time. Anyone who could build a fire was in no danger of freezing to death at night or in winter and always had something warm to eat and light.

Build a fire like in the Middle Ages
Would you like to make a fire just like people used to? With the iron fire starter, which looks like a find from a Viking settlement, you can travel back in time and feel like a person from the past. When the fire was lit with the striking iron to cook the animals brought back from the hunt over the fire.
Your personal chopping iron
Hold a unique piece in your hands that has been traditionally forged and filed by hand and let yourself be transported back to a time when a large cauldron was placed over the fire and hot soups, game or water were cooked there. Light a fire under your own steam to warm yourself and feel the atmosphere around you. Close your eyes, listen to the crackling of your fire and dream yourself back into the past.
