As early as 3000 years before our era, the Egyptians recognized the many possibilities offered by a solution made from the sap of Verek and Seyal acacias, known as gum water. Among many other applications, the first common black ink was created by mixing gum water and soot.
This method of producing writing ink was also documented in China from 2600 BC.
It was not until around 1000 BC that this form of ink production was replaced by a new method in the Far East. Ink was now called ink, which was made from burnt coniferous charcoal and lamp oil and mixed with a glue made from gelatine. Pressed into sticks and dried, the ink stick is still used in Japanese calligraphy today.
It was not until the Middle Ages that a number of formulas with different colored pigments were developed, which can be seen as the forerunners of gold aqua ink.
