Genuine Egyptian papyrus - unique and effective
Genuine Egyptian papyrus was made from a species of Cyprus grass, Cyperus papyros. This plant was highly coveted in ancient times as it was essential for the production of papyrus. Papyrus was easier to write on than the heavy clay tablets, for example. This made correspondence much easier. The term papyrus is most likely derived from the Egyptian word pa-en-per-aa. In translation, it means "that of the pharaoh", which in turn suggests that only the pharaoh had the monopoly. The 10 genuine Egyptian papyrus sheets offered here are laid by hand.

Papyrus - unique production
Cyperus papyrus grew in large bushes. After harvesting, the stems were peeled, cut into thin strips, soaked several times and then beaten flat. The strips were then laid close together and a second layer was placed on top in a horizontal format. Both layers were beaten until juice oozed out. This acted like glue. After drying, the resulting papyrus sheet was smoothed with a stone or wood to create an ideal writing material.

The script
A milestone in the history of mankind! It made it possible to communicate one's thoughts to other people, to spread and preserve knowledge. Alongside stone and clay tablets, papyrus sheets were the first carriers of writing.
Simple and cheap to produce, light, easy to roll and fold and easy to write on. The forerunner of our modern paper could only have been created in a truly advanced civilization, a melting pot of knowledge and experience. Knowledge had to be communicated and disseminated quickly and easily to as many people as possible. Otherwise, an imperial state apparatus with a highly developed economic system and construction industry on the Nile would have been inconceivable. This is why scholars in ancient Egypt began to use the papyrus plant native to the Nile. The fiber was mixed with water, crushed, flattened and dried in the sun. The result - paper - could be cut or torn into usable and manageable sheets and written on with simple charcoal.
