Diana is the Roman Queen of Heaven, wild and free

A wild goddess - free and adorable

Her name means "the shining one" or "bright sky" because she was likewise the mistress of the sun and the moon. The deity Diana was always worshiped in the open in her boundless realm. Being the goddess of sun and moon, she pointed to the steady cycle of nature. Diana was also the goddess of nature, hunting and wild animals. As tutelary goddess of childbirth, nursing mothers and for granting conception, she was invoked particularly when trying to conceive.

An aureole in her hair and always hunting

For young women she was believed to be the protectress and friend of the youth. Goddess Diana vested government authority and she was the Italian goddess of fertility. Her feast day, 15 August, is now celebrated by Catholics as Assumption. The wild goddess is always personated in the same way. She wears a kind of wreath, with tall tines or rays in open long hair. Sometimes it is a crescent moon. Diana holds a powerful lance in her left hand. These was conducted for boar hunting, where animals and dogs were her steady companions.
