The Celtic Triskele in form of hunting dogs

The dogs on the pendant out of brass are put in the order of the form of a typical Triskele. The name out of the Greek means something like "three legged" - even though the hunting dogs of course each have four legs! The Triskele is the mythical symbol of the radially symmetric order - a form in triplet - always closed in its self. For the celts the "magical number" three had a really important role in the mythology.

Triskele in the Celtic mythology

The connection and order of the Celtic Triskele are divers: past, present and future it symbolised as well as birth, life and death. Body, mind and soul formed the Triad, just like earth, water and air. Or for example the succession of generations: girl, mother, old woman/ boy, father, old man - corresponding to the aspects of the triune divine.

Especially to the Celts this adorning Triskele was a popular motive for jewellery pendants and furthermore was considered as talisman for protection against bad luck and the evil. So such a nice and profound gift is this pendant form the time of Celts with the motive of hunting dogs! As well out of bronze or silver the pendant enchant on the pages of the Roman Shop in the category Museum's Shop and Gift ideas. So go an a voyage of discovery to the mystical world of the Celts.
