Carbatinae the Roman low shoe
The carbatina (plural carbatinae) is the Latin name for a type of shoe with a collar consisting of a one-piece piece of leather. Carbatinae were widespread in the Roman Empire and were a type of shoe that continued to be used until the first millennium AD. Carbatinae usually consist of one piece of cowhide, which forms both the tread and the upper. Carbatinae have no sewn-on parts such as outsoles.

Carbatinae - your feet will thank you for it
We attach particular importance to the fact that the leather is tanned without the use of chemicals so that no harmful substances can penetrate the skin, as is the case with chrome-tanned leather. This is why the leather comes from a long-established German tannery with a long family tradition. Children and adults can therefore wear the Carbartiner shoes barefoot without hesitation.
Shoes made from vegetable-tanned leather are close to our hearts!
Historical facts about Carbatinae
The leather areas that form the top of the shoe are cut or perforated so that the leather adapts better to the shape of the foot. In most Carbatinae, the leather areas of the upper are cut into long tabs through which a strap or leather strap is pulled to close the shoe. The heels of the shoe are formed by one or two incisions in the leather, which are permanently closed with a seam.
The outside of the cabatinae can also be decorated with incised hole patterns, punched holes and incisions.
Archaeological finds of preserved carbatinae show that they were worn for a long time. Due to the way they are made, carbatinae are attributed to ordinary earners but are also worn by women, children and, of course, craftsmen.
