Vulcanus - Hephaestus relief – The Roman Goddess of forge
Hephaestus was the God of the forgers among the Greeks, Vulcanus the name of the same God to the Romans. It was a sign of importance and appreciation of forge craft (essential for household and military power), because no other craft was placed under the protection of God.
The present Roman relief of the God of Vulcanus comes from a copy in private hands and has been left to us for making this copy.
The original find is from Butzbach/Hessen, Germany.
