Roman clothing - Senator's outfit
Linen for senator's tunic - dressing for special occasions
Are you fascinated by Roman clothing, looking for an authentic outfit, and wanting this also to be a perfect fit? Then we have the appropriate, high-quality woven linen fabric from which you can customise your own very special Roman tunic.
White linen fabric with characteristic red stripes was reserved for senators and the nobility; fashioned as a tunic to be worn with a toga it made for an imposing appearance. Generally speaking, the longer the tunic, the higher the status of the wearer. Now you can customise your own tunic with our lightweight linen and let yourself be taken back in time!
Fine linen with woven stripes
The fine linen fabric with the "purple stripes" (Latin Clavi) drapes easily and, in comparison to heavy woollen cloth, is very comfortable to wear. The tunic's vertical purple stripes are woven in.
- lightweight linen, 270g/m² (98% Linen, 2% cotton)
- fabric width 130 cm
- stripe width 4 cm
- distance between stripes 30 cm
- sold by the metre
Your customised Roman tunic
The Clavi are arranged so that you can sew the sleeves from the side remnants of fabric (see diagram), the distance between the Clavi is 30 cm, and the total width of the linen fabric is 130 cm.
Measure the total length of fabric required for the tunic by measuring double the wearer's measurement from knee to shoulder. To get the front and back of the tunic you sew up the shoulders and the sides. The tunic is then tied together by a belt at the hip.
