Roman earrings Flora - violet stones rhomb edge with pearls

Pompeii was a flourishing port close to the foot of Vesuvius in the Antiquity. In the year 79 AD this city with its people was buried during the eruption of the Vesuvius under a layer of ash and pumice. But for science this catastrophe represents a stroke of luck, because the airtight layers over the city conserved so to speak everything in a snapshot. The buildings and everyday objects conserved by the lava convert Pompeii in on of the best maintained ruins of a ancient city. So as well workshops handcrafting wit metals, like for example gold- and silversmiths were discovered, which show the craftsmanship of the Pompeiian people in the case of fabrication of jewellery.

The originals of those earrings come from the 1st century AD and were discovered in Pompeii. They were fabricated detailed in handicraft in Germany.
