Roman Cup with Gladiators

Panem et circenses

The Roman gladiatorial games were very popular around the Mediterranean (and still are in forms of tauromachie today in Spain), and Gladiators were enthusiastically celebrated by the population and the Caesars. They were the stars of antiquity much like the biggest sports people today. Our cup has a depiction of Gladiators with impressive scenes of them fighting. The Gladiators, who are pictured here, faithfully wear armor, as already Julius Caesar described these warriors. In addition, the look and size of the Gladiators’ Cup is nearly identical to the original according to which it was made.

Antiquity brought to your hands

Many tools and dishes in antiquity were made of high quality clay. Those who could afford it had jugs, plates, amphorae and cups of clay. The Gladiators’ Cup gives therefore a precise picture of the lifestyle of the Romans. Not only through the depiction of the Gladiator’s fights, but also by the authentic production of the Gladiators’ Cup in a workshop in Italy, the time of the Romans comes alive.

  • Handmade in Italy
  • Authentic representation of Roman Gladiator scenes
  • Replica from the 1st century AD
  • Diameter of 11 cm, 12 cm high

The craftsmen of the Romans

The original Gladiators’ Cup was found in Cologne and has been dated to the 1st century AD. The Potter’s wheel, which still today is used for making the cups, still look not much different from their Roman predecessors. With them and the addition of water and small tools, our workshop creates unique works of art. Each piece, therefore, might be slightly differ in colour or shape.

Dine as the Romans did

Next time, you spend an evening together by candlelight or a crackling open fire and a good bottle of wine, why not enjoy the wine from this wonderful cup. These type of cups are ideal for hot and cold beverages and because of their material will keep these drinks longer warm or cold.
