Oil lamp Cleopatra from Egypt
The Queen of the Nile from Egypt, Cleopatra adorns the mirror of this antique oil lamp after an original find. The mirror is a very rare image of the Egyptian queen. She "rides" on a crocodile (with phallus) as an amusing representation of the exiled queen from the throne before Caesar reinstated her as queen and had her brother persecuted.

The story of the lamp
But does Cleopatra really deserve her reputation for being so beautiful? After all, she beguiled the two most powerful men in Rome ... However, if you go by her portraits, Cleopatra does not seem to have been such a beguiling beauty. Especially her nose stands out. But of course, the ideal of beauty was not the same throughout the millennia. The ancient historian Plutarch wrote of Cleopatra's appearance that she was "not so incomparable, and of a kind to charm at first sight." But the Greek writer must have been basing himself on statements, because he lived only 76 years after her death.
In any case, all historians agree that Cleopatra must have been a very intelligent and ambitious woman with a strong charisma. Plutarch went on to write, "...but in her dealings she had an irresistible charm, and her figure, combined with the winning manner of her conversation and the grace that surrounded her, left its sting." What the last Egyptian queen really looked like is difficult to reconstruct. In paintings and in numerous films, she certainly remains a beguiling beauty, who also graces this oil lamp - albeit in an unusual way!
The antique oil lamp made of red fired clay with a glaze on the inside will be shipped to you including two additional wicks.
