Isis Amulet
Isis was also the goddess of nature and magic. Her magical powers brought her husband Osiris back to life for a short time after he had been killed by Seth. After the conquest of Egypt by Alexander the Great and the subsequent administration by the Greek Ptolemies, the cult of Isis spread more and more. Throughout the Greco-Roman world, the cult became a major myteria religion, with temples, ceremonies, and rites reported by many ancient writers. Altars and cult sites have been found in Africa, Asia, and Europe, even in Britain and Germany. A well-preserved temple can be visited in Pompeii, and foundations of another sanctuary stand in Mainz.
The worship of Isis continued to the suppression of pagan cults by the Christian Church, on the island of Philae the last sanctuary was closed in the 6th century.
Our pendant shows Isis in a kneeling position, her life-giving wings spread wide. Above her headdress in the form of a throne, the cartouche (seal) of Sethos I is carved. The inscription reads 'Men-Maat-Re', i.e. 'enduring is the world order of Re', a throne name of Sethos I (1323 - 1279 BC).
Pendant made of high quality 925 silver with leather thong. Size 40x27mm.
