The meaning of animals was very important in the Celtic world! The votive hoard from Neuvy-en-Sullias close to Loire brought many interesting things to the light. Already 1861 the depot was discovered. It contained amongst other things three dozens bronzes - as well this boar, which is fabricated true to the details out of bronze here and not only pretty to wear is on a leather strap, but also worthy of hanging on a silver or gold chain!
Celts and the high art of abstraction
A casted deer was amongst the discoveries, such like various boars out of beaten sheet metal. With their rigid posture the depictions of animals still were part of tradition in Pre-Roman times. But they are very monumental in the small. In the contrary to that furthermore a depiction of a horse war presented in a very illustrative flexibility! Apparent already the Celts had mastered the art of abstraction!
Lucky charm on a leather strap
Still today the pig is a symbol of good luck in many cultures - as well in our: The classical good-luck pig! The Celtic wild boar not only presents that good luck and the success, but also stands for strength, which can lead to those. So a beautiful symbolic gift for a human, that should be blessed with good luck or as a lucky charm for yourself!
By the way: When a farmer owned a pig in the past, he had luck and could winter his family - in the truest sense in German you say: to have had a pig (meaning: to be a lucky devil)!
