Modelling sheet of a medieval chatelaine
The chatelaine was the wife of the lord of the castle and lead the castle while her husband was on a journey or in war. She taught the ladies doing their future obligations, and therefor she was supported in her doings as chatelaine, as well as in dressing up etc. The chatelaine was friend and person to talk to at the same time.
The chatelaine managed the household and watched over the the work on the landed property. She knew medicinal herbs helping against sickness. She attended her husband’s hunting parties and was present at the tournaments, too.
The mistress knew the less common art of reading and calculating and raised her daughters in that way, too. Because it wasn’t expected from the sons necessarily, women at that time normally were better educated than men.
