Lichtenstein Castle high above the valley
Lichtenstein Castle, a knight's castle straight out of a fairy tale
Like a medieval castle, built according to the novel "Lichtenstein" by Wilhelm Hauff, the romantic Lichtenstein Castle sits enthroned on the Swabian Alb, high on a steep rock.
Overgrown with thorns, the building served as a picturesque backdrop in the fairytale film "Sleeping Beauty" (2009).
Harmony with the landscape
Due to its embedding in the Alb landscape, its high-quality architecture and interior design, Lichtenstein Castle is one of the most beautiful buildings of the romantic neo-Gothic style in Germany.

Original ancestral seat of the Lords of Lichtenstein
South-east of the former castle of the Lords of Lichtenstein, which was captured and destroyed by the Reutlingers during the Swabian Town War in 1377, a new castle was built in 1390 under the rule of Württemberg. However, this also fell into disrepair and was demolished down to its foundations.
Instead, a small forest and hunting lodge was built just a few meters away. Wilhelm von Württemberg acquired the castle and had a German knight's castle built on the site in the style of the Middle Ages, incorporating the walls of the old castle.
