Roman wine ship
The original tomb of a wine merchant!
The Neumagen wine ship from about 220 AD shows two men steering it, six rowers and 22 wooden oars. Due to the shape of the barrels and the fact that this ship is rowed, it can be concluded that local wine from the Moselle region was shipped and exported on this ship.
This Roman wine ship was found in Neumagen - Dhron as a foundation part of a fort complex. The original is in the Landesmuseum in Trier. A copy can be found today at the Peterskapelle in Neumagen-Dhron.
- Length of the wine ship approx. 36 cm
- Height of the ship approx. 20 cm
- Original in the Landesmuseum Trier
