Fred with the Maya
The Jaguar Warriors' Uprising
The Maya - a highly developed culture
The Maya were an indigenous people or a group of indigenous peoples in Central America who founded imposing empires in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Thus the Maya were known for the cultivation of maize, their calendar, which was highly developed for this time, and their mathematics. Until the arrival of the Spaniards, their writing was the only mature written form in America. Their characteristic craftsmanship was rich and incomparable. The processing of metal, unlike in prehistoric Europe, was only of importance late and initially only used for ritual purposes. The cities of the Maya were dominated by impressive architecture, such as 75-metre-high stepped pyramids, palaces and observatories.
