Augustus imperial bust
Authentic Emperor Augustus bust, the first Roman Emperor
Augustus was the first Roman emperor. He was born in Rome on September 23rd, 63 BC as Gaius Octavius, and died on the 19th of August, AD 14, in Nola, near Naples. He was the principal heir and great-nephew of Gaius Iulius Caesars, winning the power struggles that followed after Caesars assassination in 44 BC. He was the sole ruler of the Roman Empire from AD 31 to 14. Under the motto "restitutio rei publicae", which can be translated to "the restoration of the republic", he was in reality working on its transformation into a monarchy. He put an end to the epoch of the Roman Civil War after a hundred years, thus establishing the Julio-Claudian imperial dynasty. His reign, which was marked by numerous wars of expansion and propagandistically glorified as "Pax Augusta", established a long-lasting period of consolidation and peace.

The statue of the "Augustus of Primaporta"
This is a bust replica of the world-famous statue of the "Augustus of Primaporta", named after its location in Primaporta, a district in the north of Rome. The original was found on April 20, 1863 in the house of Augustus' wife Livia Drusilla, the "Villa of Livia". The statue is a marble copy of a bronzed original, which was commissioned by the Senate of Rome in 20 BC to honor Emperor Augustus. The relief on the breastplate of the statue as well as the very detailed haircut is an absolute eye-catcher and one of the most famous distinguishing features of the statue, which is also faithfully and in detail reproduced in our copy.
