Exciting information about Egyptian history of Ramses II
Ramses was the name of a number of Egyptian gods. But Ramses II (hier steht auch Ramses I) was an Egyptian King, a Pharaoh and founder of the 19th dynasty (new Kingdom), who reigned from 1291 BC to 1290 BC. While the students work on their historical reliefs, they will learn that Ramses, like his predecessor Horemheb, was an Egyptian military leader. At first, he was a simple soldier, then a commander of troops and a fortress, to later become a General. As Envoy of the King and General of chariot troops he became appointed vizier by Horemheb. In this function, he was representative of the King of upper and lower Egypt. But with the goddess Isis, the story only takes its exciting course!
The famous goddess Isis
On their historical relief the students will also discover the Egyptian goddess Isis: Isis is the goddess of birth, rebirth, and magic. As a death goddess, she came to honour. For the first time she appears in inscriptions of the old empire. Celebrity and prestige among the Egyptians was given to her in conjunction with Osiris and her twin sister Nephthys, along with her husband, through the so-called myth of Osiris and the hymn to Isis. Isis was venerated even during the Christian period, not only in Egypt, but around the Mediterranean sea.
Gripping like a thrilling detective story!
The story comes from ancient Egyptian mythology and reported the murder of Osiris through his brother Seth and the efforts of his wife and sister Isis. The story only starts here, but you can make the students discover the rest. And for RE teachers, you can also introduce the students into the early stories around Mose in Egypt.
