This is the bust of the first Roman Emperor 'Octavian', better known as Augustus. Emperor Augustus is shown in this bust with his breastplate. Augustus of Primaporta, the original, is a just over two meters high statue of the first Roman Emperor Augustus. It was named after its location at Primaporta near Rome. The Primaporta type was retained for Augustus portraits as the prevailing style of presentation until his death in the year 14. According to the propagandistic purpose of these statues, Augustus does not age. Statues and portraits of this type have been found in the area of the entire Roman Empire. Today, the statue is located in the Vatican museums in Rome.
Augustus was the nephew of Gaius Julius Caesar and his main heir. Augustus emerged victorious from the struggle for power after Caesar's death and was eventually crowned as the first Roman Emperor.
