The Vikings - seafarers and adventurers
The sea and the military raids characterized the life of the Vikings. Their settlements, which they built on the water, were not just their center of life but also a harbor for their raids across the high seas. This was the place where they traded, raised their children, and lived together with their families. While the men were often travelling, women, children and the elderly stayed in the settlement and lived their everyday life. The many myths that still exist from this time show that the people of the Viking Age were by no means primitive. They used numerous crafts and even their own writing, the runic writing.
