Hand minted replica of a Celtic quarterstater of Vercingetorix

Vercingetorix the Gallic-Celtic Arvernian prince who in January .52 BC launched a last attempt to unite all the Gallic peoples to fight for their independence against the conqueror Gaius Julius Caesar.

The prince preferred a stalling warfare against the Roman army. Thus, he succeeded not only in defying the army led by Caesar in battle,
but also to cause considerable losses of the Roman troops.
The disunity among the Gaulish forces led parts of these forces to push for more offensive warfare and against the will of the
Vercingetorix to attack the Romans.
The Gallic army was completely defeated. The remaining remnants retreated to Alesia ( modern France).

Here he remained with the rest of his troops until the surrender.
