The coin of Judas betrayal!?
From the 1st century BC to the Jewish War, which ended in the year 70 AD, the Tyrian shekels were the most widely used silver coins in the Holy Land. They were also accepted as currency in the great temple in Jerusalem. Most likely Judas was paid by the Romans with this coin to betray the whereabouts of Jesus. Judas received according to tradition 30 silver coins for it.
Although the coins on the obverse showed the god Melkart and this representation obviously violated biblical commandments (e.g. Ex 20:3-4 EU), the rabbis even declared the Tyrian shekel the only currency accepted in the temple.
