Roman House – Villa

Mi Casa est su casa – My house is your house

The hospitality of the Romans, established for a long while by the famous proverb “Mi Casa est su casa”, meaning “my house be your house”, was really not even close as encompassing as you may have thought. Though the gates of the Mediterranean city villas usually were open wide, this was caused by the warm weather and unbearably hot summers. The truth is that the Romans took great care to let nobody take a look inside their houses easily. However, you will be able to, thanks to the arts and crafts kit Roman Villa.

Detailed depiction of Roman life

The Roman country mansion house, the so called Villa Rustica is the opposite to the other architectural types of the Roman, or southern alpine cities – it was the main type of the rich, northern great landowners north of the Alps. The arts and crafts kit Roman Villa is helpful in illustrating that lifestyle in class.

  • 3,5 pages in DIN-A4 format
  • Length 24 cm, width 16 cm, height 8 cm
  • The assembled building resembles a scale of 1:87
  • The level of difficulty for crafting this building is “medium”

Didactically demanding

No matter if during class, or as the base for role playing or scenic plays, the arts and crafts kit Roman Villa enables you to directly experience Roman daily life. Under the detachable roof, you find the basic structure of a classical Roman villa with its typical inner courtyard (Peristyl) and the adjoining rooms where the inhabitants cooked ate and slept. The common scale allows the combined usage of miniatures with the building - for creativity knowing no limits.

Do as the Romans did!

Furthermore, the arts and crafts kit Roman Villa can be combined with the other arts and crafts kits – the perfect entry into the Roman world!

5 from 5 Another great model

This little model is the closest youll ever get to a Roman house as you can see them in Pompeii and Herculaneum. It has the little shops at the entrance and then the various rooms, including bedrooms, kitchen, etc. What really impressed me was the level of details. Once you lift the roof, you discover the interior of a Roman house in all its splendor. I was so excited that I actually built two of them, changing the layout from one house to the other so that they dont look exactly the same.

You can also use 1/72 or 20mm figures with this, even though they are obviously a little too large. But it still works.

Happy building!

5 from 5 Great detail!

There are instructions on how to construct the model and although I have yet to make this, the detail for the rooms looks great and I really like it that you can take the roof off to see inside. This will be such a useful model to demonstrate to people what a posh Roman villa would have looked like. Looking forward to the build!
