Designing papyrus as a classroom set
Papyrus and rushes!
Papyrus and rushes were as much a part of ancient Egypt as paper and fountain pens are today. The pen was the main writing instrument, while papyrus was the most commonly used writing surface.

Benefits at a glance
- You receive 30 writable papyrus strips
- You receive 30 writing rushes from the Nile Delta
- The product is packaged in an environmentally friendly way
- Fun and learning guaranteed
This is how it works:
The rushes were crushed at one end or beaten flat with a hammer (or even chewed - a natural product) until they were slightly fibrous and could be used as small brushes. In later times, rushes were cut at an angle like a goose quill (works well with scissors).
- Carefully tap one end flat with a small hammer. The cane will split and the fibres will be visible.
- The thickness of the brush for painting can be made thinner with scissors. For writing rush, simply cut at an angle.
- Please use one cane per colour
