The origins of Egyptian hieroglyphs in your hands
If you love ancient languages, then you definitely know about the Rosetta Stone. Now you can follow in the footsteps of Jean-François Champollion, who deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphic writing with the help of inscriptions, which he found on this artifact in 1822. The three identical content inscriptions on the stone made it possible, that for the first time hieroglyphs could be directly compared with known Greek writings. When scientists like Georg Zoëga, Johan Åkerblad, Silvestre de Sacy and Thomas Young identified the demotic part of the inscription as "alphabet", they paved the way for Champollion´s deciphering of the hieroglyphs.
