The replica of the military diploma dates back to 107 AD. The original is kept at the Museum in Weißenburg (Bavaria). Our replica is made from ceramic casting.
A military diploma (Latin: diploma militaris) is a certificate, that confirmed the status of a Roman or a national of other countries to be a soldier in the Roman Empire, it also conferred Roman citizenship with the right to marry. Typically, this happened at discharge or retirement after 25 years of service. The document is a certified copy of the edict published originally in the capital Rome. Although the term "Military diploma" is slightly misleading, it is still widely used amongst scholars.
This is an ideal tool for school history or Latin lessons, but also as a wall relief.
