Mulsum - Roman spiced wine
According to the motto: " The Roman is himself/ herself..." this postcard offers the basic recipe for the production of this Roman delicacy! And Schwubdiwup...make yourself Roman spiced wine in the amount and intensity as it tastes to you.
The original recipe is a tradition from ancient Roman cuisine and can be found in the cookbook of "Apicius", but other Roman sources also give vague information about this aperitif wine of the Romans.
The recipe we have chosen and illustrated is based on the description of Apicius. Here, however, we need the somewhat difficult to obtain ingredient " mastic (tree resin). We have balanced this in the recipe with the recommendation to use a white Retsina wine, since this is already a "resinous, tart" wine!
There are certainly countless variations of this spicy wine, this is one of our favorites!
