Pelta pendant-silver
That adorns Amazons!
1. century A.d.
This cast of an original piece from the Roman imperial period was fashioned to the pendant. Ivy leaf shield-shaped were extremely popular ornaments, as shown by numerous finds in the Roman provinces.
Especially in the military context, they are demonstrated as belt buckles and fittings, as clasps and pendants in limes middle camps.
In the 1st century AD, the Roman historian Suetonius, described that dominated the Amazons, a warlike people of woman, a part of Asia minor. Even later in the 5th century a.d., the black sea was even called the 'Amazon 'sea.
