Gladiators - The Sport Stars of ancient Rome

Sports were just as popular in ancient Rome as they are today. This fact did not change over the years. The only thing that changed are the sports played. You will hardly come across two or more people anymore, that fight each other to the death or battly against wild animals just to please a crowd. Those vile traditions have long since passed. Nevertheless, gladiators are still kept in high regard by many fans of antiquity. Just as many original Romans did also keep them in high regard. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that you would find images of those Sport Stars on normal objects like oil lamps. They actually were often sold after a public fight took place in the arena - as a kind of souvenir.

The oil lamp at hand is ready to use upon receiving. But you should not just use any oil to light it with! This can be potentially dangerous. You should only use vegetable oils. Preferably olive oil - this will also be the most authentic, due to the fact that the Romans used it too.

But you don't have to use it, if you want to keep it neat and clean. It also makes for a great piece of decoration even without giving in to its purpose.
