Nero - Madman and Emperor
Nero may be the most infamous of all the madmen that once ruled Rome. His name still inflicts dispair. During his first time as emperor he was viewd as a second Augustus but that changed drastically after a few years. He got progressively vile and violent. He had people burned human torches in order to light up his gardens. Furthermore, he allegedly burned down Rome just to make space for new buildings. He was the prototype of an power-mad emperor.
His still unbroken popularity today make coins bearing his picture very sought after. Therfore, you should not hesitate to add a coin showing his face to your collection or to surprise someone who collects ancient Roman coins for a hobby.
It also makes for a great show-and-tell object in history class and can help students to get a better grip on history.
